When deciding to own a franchise, there are many factors to consider that impact the success and preparation that your business will have. At Senior Helpers, we strive to have every one of our franchisees prepared from the start of their Discovery Process to even after their franchise is open. For new franchise owners, it can be overwhelming to leave their comfortable career and partake in a new role as an entrepreneur and business owner. We are proud to say that we have helped over 345 individuals successfully run their franchise with our outstanding support and training. We’ve rounded up some of our franchisees and have gathered their helpful tips for new entrepreneurs when it comes to franchising.
1. Use and take advantage of the franchise brand’s business model.
Senior Helpers provides every franchisee with a strong franchise model to set them up for success. This model includes operations, sales, marketing, and IT support for easy guidance if needed. Maureen Mostella, one of our franchisees in East San Diego said, “What helps us best with our success is national corporate partnerships whether it be lead generation, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Senior Helpers uses their big company leverage and national partnerships to build and foster benefits for us.”
2. Take care of your clients, employees, and self.
Every franchisee should consider each person that contributes to the business when running their franchise. This means looking after employees, clients, and yourself, so everyone has equal appreciation and recognition. Take it from Michael and Leann Mohl, owners of Senior Helpers of South Palm Beach, “When starting or growing your franchise, be sure that your team has direct support so that when you hit a new milestone — and you will — you and they know what to do to minimize stress and sustain a focus on growth.” Having a strong and happy team will help each person contribute different skills to the business to help you achieve the goals you want.
Another franchisee, Bobbi Emanuel, who owns 3 Senior Helpers territories in Central Pennsylvania has essential information for new owners, “Be focused, be fair, be flexible. Owning a business is hard work, no matter how small and regardless if it’s part of a larger franchise network. It’s important to find your personal life balance.” Be sure to make time for yourself, after all, that is one of the benefits of being your own boss.
3. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and be open to anything.
Making mistakes helps to increase your wisdom and experience to help you face a similar challenge in a new light. Everyone makes mistakes throughout their life, but it’s important to focus on your progress after that mistake and see the challenge as a lesson for the future. Another big tip is to be open to any opportunities, especially as a new franchisee. Our owner of Senior Helpers East San Diego, Maureen Mostella, shares some wisdom, “Your company is only as good as your caregivers, and you need to invest the time in them. Make sure that you’re supporting them and building a strong, dependable, and skilled team. It is definitely hard work, but it is very fulfilling and just going into work each day helping people just kind of makes it all worth it.”
4. Find a franchise that values your views and has ethical morals.
Being a part of a franchise that shares the same mission and values can go a long way in business and allows you to create a difference in the world. Tanya Ferber, owner of Senior Helpers Fargo told us, “I was instantly drawn to the company culture. I loved the personal attention that I received during my discovery day. I vetted out a few non-medical home care brands and hands down, Senior Helpers was the standout. Our people are our greatest asset and knowing that we provide a culture where they feel respected, supported and valued for the services we provide is important.”
Overall, at Senior Helpers, we value every single one of our franchisees and employees and are proud to have such amazing individuals a part of our family. Within the home care industry, Senior Helpers is honored to have many accolades that strengthen our mature and established brand. We have a healthy culture and have been certified as a Great Place to Work for three years in a row by the Great Place to Work Institute®.
